I have had the privilege of being commissioned to paint a helmet for a good friend and model of mine. She trusted me enough to give me a brand new helmet with a little guidance and a lot of creative liberty. I’m not an airbrush artist exclusively, so the idea of only airbrushing did not appeal to me. I painted this beautiful helmet in my style, by hand and with a little airbrush for accents. It’s called Dolled Up Darkness, as per the request of the client. I’m so excited about it and so proud. here’s just a sneak peak!

Yesterday, Amy Lou and I set off for magical Ft.Lauderdale in hopes of securing some boutiques and sponsors for our fundraiser event in April. As it turns out. fundraiser sponsors are secured well in advance. practically a year in advance! As a full time artist, planning anything a year in advance seems surreal!
And though we were only going to boutiques to had out special invitations to our show, we were met with scrutiny, glaring eyes and overall disdain. I’ve never met such a foul group of snooty characters. And all we wanted was to invite them to the show and offer them free champagne. Could you imagine if we were actually looking for sponsors!?
Despite all that, Amy did a great job approaching these places, and on our final assault we met a pleasant and interesting gentlemen named Blake. He owns Mimosa Boutique and as it turns out, we have connections through Delray and Wellignton. What a happy coincidence. He LOVED Amy’s pieces and invited her to take part in his fashion show in March! The boost she truly needed at the moment.
This is hard, planning is hard, asking for money is hard, but the payoff, the show, the funds we raise for the two charities. I know that it will all be worth it. It’s been a learning experience, and nothing we’ve done or gone through has been a waste. I know that with every new obstacle, I become a better business person, a better planner and organizer. maybe this post isn’t filled with beautiful pictures or super fun sexy stories, but it is a revelation. We can overcome and create anything we put our minds to. We have the power to change people and the world, but it takes hard work and determination.
I feel that I’ve become an artist of actions, and I’m very happy with that!

I’ve spent all day painting outside in the beautiful south Florida weather! It was so nice to be able to focus on the creative process. Then i came in to do some image research for an upcoming event. I’m making a mermaid tail!
Ever since i was a little girl, i always wanted to be a mermaid! They were my fantasy. i wanted to be the girl in Splash, i wanted to work at wiki watchee springs where the real mermaids are! But that never happened. And now i think my lung capacity is shot. But i still dreamed that somewhere there was a magical place with beautiful mermaids.
I think i may have found that place!

As many of you know, my boyfriend and I love classic cars and are lucky enough to have a few. Last night, we went out to a local car show with a few friends and a group of Cadillacs. The show was kinda small and a little old and crusty, but our cars looked supreme! Then vanilla Ice showed up! lol, Rob is a caddy fan too, so he instantly took a liking to our group. He’s been around here for years and we’ve seen him at quite a few shows. He’s a super nice guy and always friendly. Maybe a Cadillac Club soon?

It’s absolutely gorgeous in sunny West Palm Beach today, and as much as I wanted to be out laying on the beach or walking barefoot in the grass, I was working.

As a self employed artist, work is number one. it’s all I do. And that doesn’t mean making art… it means paperwork, schedules, phone calls and businessy stuff. not my forte. Being strapped to a computer chair when i could be out making a monster kinda stinks.

But I’m not mad! I was working towards something great! Something meaningful and impactful! Something much bigger than myself.

Amy Carlino of Amy Lou Designs and myself are organizing an incredible Charity and Fashion Event in Ft. Lauderdale for April 7th! SERENGETI will raise money for The Rare Species Conservatory Foundation and Outreach Uganda, both of which seek to create a healthy, self – sufficient,  and stable population in the people and animals they support.

I am so thrilled an honored to be a part of the planning and design of this show! it’s a real first for me, this business end of a production. What a learning experience!

There’s so much I want to say about this event and how it’s so much more than a fashion show. It will be an EXPERIENCE! An opportunity to make a real difference while enjoying yourself. Something you can walk away from feeling really good about.  Save the date! I want to see you there!

So, here we are, February of 2012. And i’m finally starting my blog!

I have spent the last couple years growing, building and cultivating this love that I call  Body Art.  I’ve been through ups and downs and many of you have been kind enough to follow me on facebook. As much as I appreciate the thousand plus followers, FB has made it very difficult for me to show my new work  and share my accomplishments with you. My account was recently terminated for “sexual content”, which means a breast was visible in my painting.

So rather than continue to fight facebook or deal with that drama, I’m turning my attention to my blog! Here, you’ll be able to see NEW work, keep up with ALL of my upcoming events and shows, ask questions and get answers, find out when and where my new classes will be offered, and win some awesome stuff through fun games!
